Authentic Feel on Advanced Hardware

The Future Is Near

New Games And Remastered Classics

M64 is more than a console. We’re also releasing dozens of brand new cartridge games, delivered in physical boxes with printed manuals. Our publishing team is directly funding solo indie developers on new IPs, and partnering with larger studios to remaster and re-release old classics.

Community First

Shape What Comes Next

M64 was made with our community in mind. Our FPGA core and firmware are open-source, the hardware is mod and customization friendly, and wireless updates let us add more improvements and features over time – like HDMI passthrough and Transfer Pak for Chromatic owners. The future of M64 is yours to shape, now and forever.

The Best of the PastIn a Brand New Present

M64 is not a replica. It’s a standalone console, built from bleeding-edge hardware to let anyone experience an era of games exactly the way their original creators intended.

01

The Gold Standard

M64 features one of the rarest, most expensive circuit boards ever created in consumer electronics, complete with gold traces to resist corrosion and improve conductivity.

02

FPGA Or Nothing

At the center of M64 is a 16nm AMD Artix UltraScale+ FPGA, the most advanced processor ever used in a retro console, and the only choice for true hardware-level accuracy.

03

See The Soul

M64's dual-texture transparent shell lets you see right into the soul of the console. Every color is a tribute to an era where tech was fun and unapologetic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your M64 order comes with the console, 16GB SD card (pre-installed), multi-region power adapter, and power cable.

You’ll want to make sure you have your own HDMI cable to connect to your display, and your preferred choice of controller. Our M64 Pro Controller is available to order here.

Many of our customers already have controllers they’re bringing to the table, and we don’t want to force people to pay extra for a controller they might not want or need.

Our controller is built to a high standard – premium aluminum body, TMR analog thumbsticks, ultra low-latency Bluetooth SCI®, trident design, compatible with Android, PC, and original N64® consoles. We think everyone would love to own one, but we support your right to choose how to play, whether it's with ours, one from your childhood, or one from another company.

M64 is compatible with M64 Pro Controllers, N64® controllers, Hyperkin® Captain+ Controllers, Retro Fighters®, Nintendo Switch® NSO controllers (requires accessory), and 8BitDo® 64 controllers.

M64 will work with any of your original cartridges, no matter which region you bought them in. Our growing library of M64 games can be found here. We can’t say too much yet, but plenty more are already in development. Please see our compatibility page for more information on backwards compatibility with original N64® game cartridges.

Yes, M64 has built-in Expansion Pak and Controller Pak.Transfer Pak is supported through Chromatic and will become available in a future firmware update.

Yes. Overclocking helps reduce the frame rate drops sometimes experienced on original cartridges. This ensures all your games run silky smooth, allowing you to experience every game exactly how developers intended, without being held back by the constraints of the original hardware. M64 comes with a standard overclocking mode, and we're developing an advanced mode that takes full advantage of the M64's PSRAM memory architecture, which was designed to support higher overclocking than any other console in its class. This will become available via a future firmware update.

A dedicated CRT adapter is available for preorder here, with support for composite, component, S-Video, and RGB output. We designed it as a separate accessory to keep the console price as low as possible for HDMI-only customers, while giving CRT enthusiasts a first-party, lowest-possible-lag solution. In the meantime, M64 includes a range of customizable scanline and CRT filter effects.

N64 Nostalgia at Its Absolute Best!

The M64 perfectly captures the magic of the Nintendo 64! Sure, a few software features are still missing, but honestly, I can't remember the last time I had this much fun with a gaming console. Absolutely loving it and really looking forward to future updates!

    Not for me.

I really wanted this to be like the chromatic. Which started by me taking my kid to GameStop, and spotting something which sparked my childhood curiosity while waiting. That moment alone started something, I picked it up saw what it was and fell in love, but had lost all my games and had none. Over the next few days couldn’t stop thing about it and bought it, now I have over sixty games, and just keep wanting more. It’s simple like the old days, put cart in and play. This for me was not. I could not get my controller to pair and when I could it would only on second player. I wished it was more like the chromatic. 3 stars the modretro customer support. Thank you.

No hate on the clear here

Originally I was disappointed I didn't know the smoke edition was available a little later and I picked up the clear as my alternative wanting an unobstructed view of the internals. I have enjoyed the clear shell so much that it's totally changed my outlook on clear consoles and I'm looking into mods for my existing consoles because I want the clear view into the internals of the system!

    Perfect choice as N64 alternatives

Really impressed with the M64! The build quality is excellent, and it offers a great way to enjoy classic N64 games on modern displays. The overall experience feels very close to the original hardware, with the added convenience of modern connectivity. A fantastic choice for anyone looking to revisit their favourite N64 games without relying on aging original hardware. Highly recommended!
