ModRetro did everything right with the Chromatic. You notice just how well built it is the moment you hold it in your hands and feel the cold metal body. The IPS screen, which is protected by Gorilla Glass by default, is absolutely beautiful. It's bright enough to lighten up a dark room and brings new life to old games. It takes AA batteries (or the optional removable rechargeable battery pack), which ensures it will it can always be powered and negates planned obsolescence. When the battery power is low an indicator appears in the top right corner of the screen about 30 minutes before switching into a low power mode (which dims the screen) for the last nearly 30 minutes, giving ample time & warning to save your game. Every console even comes with a beautiful remastered version of the classic Tetris game, which is just as addictive as ever. They even are encouraging independent game developers to develop brand new games & publishing under the ModRetro label. As I said, ModRetro did everything, from the form factor to the power supply to the encouraging of new retro game development, right. I absolutely love that I bought the Chromatic and fully intend to purchase both the M64 & any other classic console they give new life. I can't recommend the Chromatic, and ModRetro, enough and am so excited to see ModRetro take the 8-64 bit ground that other mainstream gaming companies have left behind.

The look-n-feel is BACK! It's good to know that firmware updates will keep this nostalgia trip going for a long time. Build quality is excellent! My wife had no gaming experience, in the 80s, except for the Gameboy, so I bought this to stoke her interest in retro gaming, and BOY DID IT WORK! Tetris and Dr. Mario got her right back into "playing with power". Now I think she's primed and ready to go for a drive with Mario Kart 64 on the M64!
