Patchy Matchy is a simple game, but it’s got charm. The core gameplay is easy to pick up, and the added accomplishments give it just enough depth to keep you coming back. It’s clear some thought went into making it more than just a basic match game. I really appreciate that. It feels like a perfect fit for younger players too. I’ll definitely be saving this one for my kids when they’re older. A sweet little game with lasting appeal.

You would think a puzzle game like this would get old fast. Nay Nay! I keep coming back to this and can play it for a while at a time and it is ALWAYS fun! Love it!

Patchy Matchy on the GameBoy Color is a super chill puzzle game that’s snagged a solid 4 stars from me! This Modretro exclusive, cooked up by Tom Sutton (aka Malamute), stars Patchy, a rad surfer dog who’s all about matching sea creatures in a Yoshi’s Cookie-style grid. The pixel art is clean and colorful, popping off the GBC screen with a beachy vibe, and the three funky chiptune tracks keep you grooving while you swap starfish and crabs to clear lines. It’s simple but addictive—line up four critters to clear them, or chain combos with six for big points, all while the board fills up faster if you’re not quick.
