How It Started
It started as an idea to build a playable portfolio for my personal website – and that’s when I discovered GB Studio. From there, I was hooked.
Other Games / Projects
Self Simulated is my first “real” video game. Since then, I’ve started work on Fuse Dash, an arcade-style action platformer for the Game Boy Color that’s still in development. I’ve also helped with level design and QA testing for other indie devs' projects along the way.
Fun Fact
Self Simulated was made while camping across Europe – Italy, Norway, Denmark, England, Scotland, and the Netherlands. I worked entirely on my laptop while on the road. Oh, and my wife designed two of the levels!
The Idea
Why I Made This Game
Making a video game has always been a dream of mine. After watching Game Maker’s Toolkit’s video “Why Does Celeste Feel So Good to Play?”, I wanted to try building a platformer that felt just as smooth and satisfying – on the Game Boy Color, no less.
What Makes This Game Special
Just the fact that it exists! When I look back at the time, effort, and learning that went into Self Simulated, it honestly feels like a miracle. Like – I made a video game! That’s freaking awesome.
You'll Love This If...
You enjoy tight, responsive platformers – especially if you like mastering precise controls.
Inspiration / Influences
My aim was to create something that feels like a mix between Celeste and Katana Zero – but on the GBC.
Favorite Feature
Definitely the assist settings. They let players tweak the game’s difficulty to match their play style, which makes it more accessible without compromising the core experience.

Fast paced, cool narrative, and feels extremely modern on a retro title. Even my teenager is addicted to it.

Self Simulated turned out to be a really fun game. It’s got that classic 2D platformer feel, but with some cool time‑based twists that keep things interesting. One thing I loved was the quality‑of‑life stuff — instead of restarting the whole game when you mess up, you just start back at the level. Way less rage‑inducing.
The difficulty was honestly perfect for me. Some levels got pretty tough, in that “okay fine, one more try” kind of way. It gave me big Impossible Game vibes from when I was a kid, mixed with a bit of Mario charm. Overall, it’s challenging, fun, and definitely worth checking out if you’re into platformers.
